The Rule That Only Lasted One Day

I made a new rule for myself.

Bedtime is bedtime.

When I have an idea of what to write, it is almost like a dream and if I don’t write it down right then at that exact second, I will forget what it was.

I didn’t write it down the other night because of that new stupid rule.  I was in bed and I told myself, “Bedtime is bedtime, Erin.  Blue light is not good for me before sleep!”  Heaven forbid I use paper and pencil.

And then I forgot it. The only thing I remember is what a good thought it was.

I’ve only done that once.

It was a great point.

So good I wouldn’t forget about it.

But the next morning I had forgotten and I was so bummed. I had really wanted to share that story.

I changed that rule.

That rule only lasted one day.

I was happily married for almost 24 years. My husband and I had were raising two children. Shortly before our 24th anniversary, Tom died suddenly of heart attack. My world stopped. With kids (ages 16 and 13) there isn't the luxury of mourning at my own pace. I had to roll up my sleeves and help each with their own grief all the while managing mine. It is very hard. I am sad that some of you may have found this blog as you are trying to navigate your own traumatic event. Let me be here for you. Grief is fickle. Just when you think you are strong enough to manage a second, a minute, an hour, Grief changes her mind and punches you in the gut. You are not alone. I'm going through it, too. I am here for you.
