I was so afraid of having nightmares after it all happened. I was exhausted and couldn’t fight sleep. I just hoped I wouldn’t wake up scared or sad. Or worse yet, waking up happy because I thought my reality was just a terrible dream.
I got a text on Valentine’s Day morning. Actually I got a lot of texts that morning.
The funny thing is, Tom and I didn’t really get too involved in Valentine’s Day. We’d get the obligatory cards and write something nice in them of course, but that was enough. We’d use it as an excuse to not cook and he’d often bring home pizza or something.
But this Valentine’s Day I got a ton of texts and it was great, but also unusual. It reminded me of the circumstances that made it unusual.
I got a text from my dear friend first thing in the morning. It was different than the others. I was going to her house later that night, so her dream was especially poignant.
It said:
“Right before I woke up I had the most vivid dream. A bunch of us were all getting ready to go out to dinner and I was sitting next to you, and Tom was there and told you to have a good time and walked away. Then I started to tear up. And you teared up, Erin… my takeaway is that Tom is always with us. ❤️❤️😭😭“
I’m not having dreams about Tom. I don’t know why. I’ve read it’s normal to either have dreams or not to have dreams about your loved one. In the beginning I had two dreams. I was busy doing something in each dream (I don’t remember what) and Tom was in the background. He was happy and I knew he was there. He knew I was there and I think we both knew that we wouldn’t see each other again, but we were at peace with it. It was weird, but it was comfortable. I don’t know what that means because in real life, I don’t think I’m at peace with it, but I’ve decided to believe that it means we are both doing okay?
We are okay.
Anyway, I love that Tom told me to have a good time in my friend’s dream. And I love that she told me as soon as she woke up.
