Wanting To Call Tom

Sometimes I forget and for a fraction of a second I think, “Oh my gosh, wait til Tom hears this!!” During all of this pandemic stuff and all of the firsts that have come with it, I especially have been thinking that.

If I could’ve called him today, this is what I would’ve said;

“You won’t believe how helpful your friends and connections have been.  Can you even imagine me having a video meeting with your accountant friend about taxes??? I’m having FaceTime calls and zoom meetings with your friends and peers and they are doing things for me.  Not just empty words, actual actions! Things we would have never asked for or needed help with before.  They are helping me with these crappy tasks because they know how YOU would want them to be done.  They are walking the walk for sure and you would be so happy that you knew such wonderful people!”

I couldn’t call him, of course, so I’m writing it down here instead.

I was happily married for almost 24 years. My husband and I had were raising two children. Shortly before our 24th anniversary, Tom died suddenly of heart attack. My world stopped. With kids (ages 16 and 13) there isn't the luxury of mourning at my own pace. I had to roll up my sleeves and help each with their own grief all the while managing mine. It is very hard. I am sad that some of you may have found this blog as you are trying to navigate your own traumatic event. Let me be here for you. Grief is fickle. Just when you think you are strong enough to manage a second, a minute, an hour, Grief changes her mind and punches you in the gut. You are not alone. I'm going through it, too. I am here for you.
