I Was Over The Moon!

December 31, 2019

Tom and I used to chuckle about how different our days were. He ran a company and went from city to city. I ran a household and could go for days without leaving our house in the country.

I loved hearing about his work. When I asked what he did that day he’d give me an hour by hour detailed run down. I loved the details. I loved listening to him talk about business and he loved to hear my perspective on business. To me, my days seemed much less important and exciting, but he didn’t think so. He loved hearing about my day and the adventures the kids had. I told him that I felt like I was chasing my tail all day, tasks went unfinished, thoughts were incomplete…you know how life with young kids is.

I decided that I should take inventory of a normal day and write it down and just see what I came up with.

I printed it and gave it to him. I’d forgotten all about it until I found it in one of his old journals recently (he was great at keeping yearly journals). It’s not a schedule of my day, it’s more like scattered thoughts.

Sometimes you can’t see what you have until you see it written down.

So, in 2020, I wish you all the ability to enjoy the simple things, to find joy and spontaneity in unscheduled days and the contentment in being yourselves. And WRITE IT DOWN!

(I still can’t believe he saved this😊)

I was happily married for almost 24 years. My husband and I had were raising two children. Shortly before our 24th anniversary, Tom died suddenly of heart attack. My world stopped. With kids (ages 16 and 13) there isn't the luxury of mourning at my own pace. I had to roll up my sleeves and help each with their own grief all the while managing mine. It is very hard. I am sad that some of you may have found this blog as you are trying to navigate your own traumatic event. Let me be here for you. Grief is fickle. Just when you think you are strong enough to manage a second, a minute, an hour, Grief changes her mind and punches you in the gut. You are not alone. I'm going through it, too. I am here for you.
