Look Up!

I have had a wonderful, pretty plain, but amazing life. I have two healthy teenage kids. I was happily married to my husband who was happily married to me. Things had always gone blissfully in the right order, until last year.

My husband died unexpectedly.

My heart broke. I had to tell my kids the worst words I have ever said and they were the worst words my kids have ever heard.

Everything changed.

The stories that follow are just me feeling ALL of the feelings. It’s a rollercoaster.

I’ve witnessed recently, through the Covid 19 quarantine, that many people are suffering with grief right now. All of our grief may be different- the loss of a job, the loss of graduation, the loss of security and direction, and the loss of lives. It’s all different sadness, but it is all sadness. It ALL counts as grief.

I hope that as you read this you’ll find comfort. I hope you will see that even amid immense sadness and uncertainty, joy and humor can still be found. I hope you will see that with baby steps, I am making it through my grief and you can, too. I haven’t done it without falling, but I always get back up. I am hopeful that joy will become a permanent emotion again in my life.
